ROAM: Jan 21 2010

Sometimes an opportunity comes to take part in an event that transcends a routine weekend night out. On Saturday, January 23rd, Droog share the controls with legends of the California early house and techno scenes, Doc Martin and Michael Cook. It's an exciting and welcome chance to connect to LA's storied rave past to its vibrant dance music present. Organized by another respected Angeleno, John Wander, with participation from Doc Martin's Sublevel, this party is a true labor of love for all involved.

Doc Martin is one of the very few in this city's scene who fully deserve the "needs no introduction" description. A flag carrier and the calling card of Los Angeles house for two decades, Doc is a legitimate institution. A trail-blazer with tremendous integrity, vast record collection and eclectic and finely-tuned taste, Doc has pushed the sound of the global dance underground in LA through his long-running and inimitable Sublevel parties and guest sets at every local club imaginable. Doc has also been the go-to Los Angeles-based DJ on the international circuit for many years. He is one of the select few to have released a Fabric mix CD, has played everywhere from Womb in Tokyo, to Panorama Bar in Berlin and Ministry in London. There is very little in the world of EDM that Doc Martin hasn't accomplished.

Michael Cook can be rightfully considered the godfather of rave movement in Southern California. Michael is part of the group of young Englishmen, many of them from Manchester, who settled in LA in mid and late 80's bringing the fresh whiff of Acid House with them. Michael Cook DJ'd at some of the first warehouse parties in this city, such as Moonshine and Truth. Since his formative early years, Michael has had a steady DJing career that has seen him play some of the biggest events in Europe, like Glastonbury, Reading festival, The Big Chill and the Notting Hill Carnival. His eclectic sets draw from the best of House, Funk, Soul, Nu Disco and Electro with an immaculate sense of history and great understanding of context.

Droog will have the privilege to set up the legendary Djs, with help from John Wander himself and another long-time LA Dj, Mark Lewis.
